opencensus-go - A stats collection and distributed tracing framework

  •    Go

OpenCensus Go is a Go implementation of OpenCensus, a toolkit for collecting application performance and behavior monitoring data. Currently it consists of three major components: tags, stats, and tracing. The API of this project is still evolving, see: Deprecation Policy. The use of vendoring or a dependency management tool is recommended.

  •    Java

Pinpoint is an APM (Application Performance Management) tool for large-scale distributed systems written in Java. Modelled after Dapper, Pinpoint provides a solution to help analyze the overall structure of the system and how components within them are interconnected by tracing transactions across distributed applications.

  •    C

Zabbix is an enterprise-class open source distributed monitoring solution. It is highly scaleable, capable of monitoring more than 100,000 devices and servers. A Zabbix agent can also be installed on UNIX and Windows hosts to monitor statistics such as CPU load, network utilization, disk space, etc. It also supports agentless monitoring via SNMP, TCP and ICMP.

TraceMyNet: a network tracing tool

  •

TraceMyNet is a network tracing tool. It acts as a TCP socket proxy and allows you visualize network traffic, including local traffic that tools like netmon can't capture. It has support for SLL encrypted connections as well.

sysmon-config - Sysmon configuration file template with default high-quality event tracing

  •

This is a Microsoft Sysinternals Sysmon configuration file template with default high-quality event tracing. The file provided should function as a great starting point for system change monitoring in a self-contained package. This configuration and results should give you a good idea of what's possible for Sysmon. Note that this does not track things like authentication and other Windows events that are also vital for incident investigation.

Pandora FMS is a performance and availability monitoring system, ready for big environments. It uses agents for local monitoring and can do several kinds of remote network monitoring. It watches your systems and applications, and allows you to know the status of any element of those systems.

Zipkin - Distributed tracing system

  •    Java

Zipkin is a distributed tracing system. It helps gather timing data needed to troubleshoot latency problems in service architectures. Features include both the collection and lookup of this data. If you have a trace ID in a log file, you can jump directly to it. Otherwise, you can query based on attributes such as service, operation name, tags and duration. Some interesting data will be summarized for you, such as the percentage of time spent in a service, and whether or not operations failed.

kiali - Kiali project, observability for the Istio service mesh

  •    Go

A Microservice Architecture breaks up the monolith into many smaller pieces that are composed together. Patterns to secure the communication between services like fault tolerance (via timeout, retry, circuit breaking, etc.) have come up as well as distributed tracing to be able to see where calls are going. A service mesh can now provide these services on a platform level and frees the application writers from those tasks. Routing decisions are done at the mesh level.

grpc-opentracing - OpenTracing is a set of consistent, expressive, vendor-neutral APIs for distributed tracing and context propagation

  •    Python

This package enables distributed tracing in GRPC clients and servers via The OpenTracing Project: a set of consistent, expressive, vendor-neutral APIs for distributed tracing and context propagation. Once a production system contends with real concurrency or splits into many services, crucial (and formerly easy) tasks become difficult: user-facing latency optimization, root-cause analysis of backend errors, communication about distinct pieces of a now-distributed system, etc. Distributed tracing follows a request on its journey from inception to completion from mobile/browser all the way to the microservices.

trace-nodejs - Trace is a visualised distributed tracing platform designed for microservices.

  •    Javascript

With version 3.x.x we have dropped support for Node v0.10. This means that future releases under this major version might contain code changes that are incompatible with Node.js v0.10 to an extent of crashing your application. Please consider updating to a newer runtime, especially that the maintenance of v0.10 has already ended. See our compatibility table below. Also, since 3.1.0 we switched to a different API backend for collecting traces which is incompatible with the old one. The old endpoint is still supported, but we would like it to be phased out eventually. Please update your agents to 3.1.0 or newer.

Jaeger - Distributed Tracing System from Uber
