Zstandard v1.3.7 is a real-time compression algorithm, providing high compression ratios. It offers a very wide range of compression / speed trade-off, while being backed by a very fast decoder. Brotli v.1.0.7 is a generic-purpose lossless compression algorithm that compresses data using a combination of a modern variant of the LZ77 algorithm, Huffman coding and 2nd order context modeling, with a compression ratio comparable to the best currently available general-purpose compression methods. It is similar in speed with deflate but offers more dense compression.

LZF-compress is a Java library for encoding and decoding data in LZF format, written by Tatu Saloranta. LZF alfgorithm itself is optimized for speed, with somewhat more modest compression. Compared to the standard Deflate (algorithm gzip uses) LZF can be 5-6 times as fast to compress, and twice as fast to decompress. Compression rate is lower since no Huffman-encoding is used after lempel-ziv substring elimintation.

The motivation for this fork was due to seeing several 3rd party contributions containing new optimizations not getting implemented into the official zlib repository. Mark Adler has been maintaining zlib for a very long time, and he has done a great job and hopefully he will continue for a long time yet. The idea of zlib-ng is not to replace zlib, but to co-exist as a drop-in replacement with a lower threshold for code change.

Miniz is a lossless, high performance data compression library in a single source file that implements the zlib (RFC 1950) and Deflate (RFC 1951) compressed data format specification standards. It supports the most commonly used functions exported by the zlib library, but is a completely independent implementation so zlib's licensing requirements do not apply. Miniz also contains simple to use functions for writing .PNG format image files and reading/writing/appending .ZIP format archives. Miniz's compression speed has been tuned to be comparable to zlib's, and it also has a specialized real-time compressor function designed to compare well against fastlz/minilzo. Please use the files from the releases page in your projects. Do not use the git checkout directly!
