Marathon-lb is a tool for managing HAProxy, by consuming Marathon's app state. HAProxy is a fast, efficient, battle-tested, highly available load balancer with many advanced features which power a number of high-profile websites. Take a look at the marathon-lb wiki for example usage, templates, and more.

minuteman - A distributed Load Balancer

  •    Erlang

A distributed, highly available service discovery & internal load balancer for distributed systems (microservices and containers). You can use the layer 4 load balancer by specifying a VIP from the Marathon UI. The VIP must be specified in the format IP:port, for example: 10.1.2.3:5000. Alternatively, if you're using something other than Marathon, you can create a label on the port protocol buffer while launching a task on Mesos. This label's key must be in the format VIP_$IDX, where $IDX is replaced by a number, starting from 0. Once you create a task, or a set of tasks with a VIP, they will automatically become available to all nodes in the cluster, including the masters.

Trafik - A Modern Reverse Proxy

  •    Go

Træfik (pronounced like traffic) is a modern HTTP reverse proxy and load balancer made to deploy microservices with ease. It supports several backends (Docker, Swarm mode, Kubernetes, Marathon, Consul, Etcd, Rancher, Amazon ECS, and a lot more) to manage its configuration automatically and dynamically.

loadcat - NGINX load balancer configurator

  •    Go

Loadcat is an Nginx configurator that allows you to use Nginx as a load balancer. The project is inspired by the various Nginx load balancing tutorial articles available online and also the existence of Linode's load balancer service NodeBalancers. So far the tool covers some of HTTP and HTTPS load balancing features, such as SSL termination, adding servers on the fly, marking them as unavailable or backup as necessary, and setting their weights to distribute load fairly. Loadcat parses a TOML encoded configuration file. In case one is not found, Loadcat will create one with same sane defaults. The location of the configuration file can be specified with the -config flag.

vagrant-mesos - Spin up your Mesos Cluster with Vagrant! (VirtualBox and AWS)

  •    Ruby

This spins up Mesos 0.22.1 cluster and also spins up a framework server node in which Marathon (0.8.2) and Chronos (2.1.0) are running. This means you can build your own Mesos+Marathon+Chronos+Docker PaaS with vagrant up!! Marathon works as distributed init.d and Chronos works as distributed cron!! If you wanted to deploy docker containers, please refer to the chapter "Deploy Docker Container with Marathon" in this blog entry. The mesos installation is powered by Mesos chef cookbook. Please see everpeace/cookbook-mesos.

marathon - Deploy and manage containers (including Docker) on top of Apache Mesos at scale.

  •    Scala

Marathon is a production-proven Apache Mesos framework for container orchestration. DC/OS is the easiest way to start using Marathon. Issues are tracked in JIRA. Marathon provides a REST API for starting, stopping, and scaling applications. Marathon is written in Scala and can run in highly-available mode by running multiple copies. The state of running tasks gets stored in the Mesos state abstraction.

swan - A Distributed, Highly Available Mesos Scheduler, Inspired by the design of Google Borg

  •    Go

Swan is a Mesos framework forcus on long running tasks, which inspired by Marathon, written with Golang and base on latest Mesos HTTP API.With Swan you can deploy long running application on mesos cluster, control lifecycle of the application, scale up or scale down any instances size you want, can also do rolling-update with new versions base on flexible health checks defined by you. Swan also designed for high avaliability which means any server crash wouldn't affect running applications. with service discovery and API gateway build-in, service discovery made easy.

roadrunner - High-performance PHP application server, load-balancer and process manager written in Golang

  •    Go

RoadRunner is an open source (MIT licensed), high-performance PHP application server, load balancer and process manager. It supports running as a service with the ability to extend its functionality on a per-project basis. RoadRunner includes PSR-7/PSR-17 compatible HTTP and HTTP/2 server and can be used to replace classic Nginx+FPM setup with much greater performance.

NGINX-Demos - NGINX and NGINX Plus demos

  •    HTML

autoscaling-demo: This demo uses one NGINX Plus instance as a load balancer with two upstream groups, one for NGINX Plus web servers and one for Elasticsearch nodes. All of the instances run in Docker containers. The demo uses both the upstream_conf and status api's. If shows creating a new NGINX Plus environment and adding and removing containers manually and with autoscaling. consul-api-demo: This demo spins up a bunch of docker containers and shows NGINX Plus being used in conjuction with Consul, a service discovery platform. It uses the upstream_conf API in NGINX Plus to add the servers registered with Consul and remove the ones which get deregistered without the need for reloading NGINX Plus. This automates the process of upstream reconfiguration in NGINX Plus based on Consul data using a simple bash script and Consul watches.

bamboo - HAProxy auto configuration and auto service discovery for Mesos Marathon

  •    Go

Bamboo is a web daemon that automatically configures HAProxy for web services deployed on Apache Mesos and Marathon. Since Marathon API and behaviour may change over time, especially in this early days. You should expect we aim to catch up those changes, improve design and adding new features. We aim to maintain backwards compatibility when possible. Releases and changelog are maintained in the releases page. Please read them when upgrading.

linkerd - Resilient service mesh for cloud native apps

  •    Scala

Linkerd is a transparent service mesh, designed to make modern applications safe and sane by transparently adding service discovery, load balancing, failure handling, instrumentation, and routing to all inter-service communication.linkerd (pronouned "linker-DEE") acts as a transparent HTTP/gRPC/thrift/etc proxy, and can usually be dropped into existing applications with a minimum of configuration, regardless of what language they're written in. It works with many common protocols and service discovery backends, including scheduled environments like Mesos and Kubernetes.

kubeadm-ha - Kubernetes high availiability deploy based on kubeadm (for v1

  •    Smarty

kube-apiserver: exposes the Kubernetes API. It is the front-end for the Kubernetes control plane. It is designed to scale horizontally – that is, it scales by deploying more instances. etcd: is used as Kubernetes’ backing store. All cluster data is stored here. Always have a backup plan for etcd’s data for your Kubernetes cluster. kube-scheduler: watches newly created pods that have no node assigned, and selects a node for them to run on. kube-controller-manager: runs controllers, which are the background threads that handle routine tasks in the cluster. Logically, each controller is a separate process, but to reduce complexity, they are all compiled into a single binary and run in a single process. kubelet: is the primary node agent. It watches for pods that have been assigned to its node (either by apiserver or via local configuration file) kube-proxy: enables the Kubernetes service abstraction by maintaining network rules on the host and performing connection forwarding. keepalived cluster config a virtual IP address (192.168.20.10), this virtual IP address point to k8s-master01, k8s-master02, k8s-master03. nginx service as the load balancer of k8s-master01, k8s-master02, k8s-master03's apiserver. The other nodes kubernetes services connect the keepalived virtual ip address (192.168.20.10) and nginx exposed port (16443) to communicate with the master cluster's apiservers.

Envoy - C++ front/service proxy

  •    C++

As on the ground microservice practitioners quickly realize, the majority of operational problems that arise when moving to a distributed architecture are ultimately grounded in two areas: networking and observability. It is simply an orders of magnitude larger problem to network and debug a set of intertwined distributed services versus a single monolithic application.
