jQuery-Store-Locator-Plugin - A store locator plugin using Google Maps API version 3

This jQuery plugin takes advantage of Google Maps API version 3 to create an easy to implement store locator. No back-end programming is required, you just need to feed it KML, XML, or JSON data with all the location information. How you create the data file is up to you. I originally created this for a company that didn’t have many locations, so I just used a static XML file. You will need to geocode your locations beforehand or use a geocoding API service if you want to try to do it on the fly. The reason for this is that all free geocoding APIs have strict limits that would easily be exceeded. In the end, you're much better off storing the coordinates versus having to look them up for each location on each request. A note on the distance calculation: this plugin currently uses a distance function that I found on the blog of Chris Pietschmann. Google Maps API version 3 does include a distance calculation service (Google Distance Matrix API) but I decided not to use it because of the current request limits, which seem somewhat low. For v2 I also tried experimenting with the Directions API to request distances but also found the limits to be too restrictive. So, the distance calculation is “as the crow flies” instead of a road distance calculation. However, if you use the inline directions option that does provide the distance that's returned via the directions request.

RapidFTR - RapidFTR streamlines and speeds up the Family Tracing and Reunification process using small handheld devices to collect information

RapidFTR is an Android-based mobile application that lets aid workers collect, sort and share information about children in emergency situations. RapidFTR is specifically designed to streamline and speed up Family Tracing and Reunification efforts both in the immediate aftermath of a crisis and during ongoing recovery efforts. RapidFTR allows for quick input of essential data about a child on a mobile phone, including a photograph, the child's age, family, health status and location information. Data is saved automatically and uploaded to a central database whenever network access becomes available. Registered aid workers will be able to create and modify entries for children in their care as well as search all existing records in order to help distressed parents find information about their missing children. Because RapidFTR is designed specifically to collect and distribute information about children, data security is extremely important.

But that was in 2012 and the landscape has changed significantly since then. Because of this we really want to know what Storm is good at, where it needs to be improved compared to other systems, and what its limitations are compared to other tools so we can recommend the best tool for the job to our customers. To do this we started to look for stream processing benchmarks that we could use to do this evaluation, but all of them ended up lacking in several fundamental areas. Primarily they did not test anything close to a read world use case, so we decided to write a simple one. This is the first round of these tests. The tool here is not polished and only covers three tools and one specific use case. We hope to expand this in the future in terms of the tools tested, the variety of processing tested, and the metrics gathered.

The Rails asset pipeline makes a number of assumptions about what's best for deploying JavaScript, including asset digest fingerprints and long-lived cache headers - mostly to increase "cacheability". Rails also assumes a single parent directory, /public/assets, to make it easier to look up the file path for a given asset. Service workers may only be active from within the scope from which they are served. So if you try to register a service worker from a Rails asset pipeline path, like /assets/serviceworker-abcd1234.js, it will only be able to interact with requests and responses within /assets/**. This is not what we want.

bwa - Burrow-Wheeler Aligner for short-read alignment (see minimap2 for long-read alignment)

Note: minimap2 has replaced BWA-MEM for PacBio and Nanopore read alignment. It retains all major BWA-MEM features, but is ~50 times as fast, more versatile, more accurate and produces better base-level alignment. BWA is a software package for mapping DNA sequences against a large reference genome, such as the human genome. It consists of three algorithms: BWA-backtrack, BWA-SW and BWA-MEM. The first algorithm is designed for Illumina sequence reads up to 100bp, while the rest two for longer sequences ranged from 70bp to a few megabases. BWA-MEM and BWA-SW share similar features such as the support of long reads and chimeric alignment, but BWA-MEM, which is the latest, is generally recommended as it is faster and more accurate. BWA-MEM also has better performance than BWA-backtrack for 70-100bp Illumina reads.

If you are upgrading from v3.x to v4.0.0 (lolisafe to chibisafe) and you want to keep your files and relations please read the migration guide. Keep in mind the migration is a best-effort script and it's recommended to start from scratch. That being said the migration does work but it's up to you to make a backup beforehand in case something goes wrong. v4.0.1 changed the hashing algorithm for a better, faster one. So if you are currently running v4.0.0 and decide to update to v4.0.1+ it's in your best interest to rehash all the files your instance is serving. To do this go to the chibisafe root folder and run node src/api/utils/rehashDatabase.js. Depending on how many files you have it can take a few minutes or hours, there's a progress bar that will give you an idea.

I've collected this pile of advice thanks to many folks with more experience than me, or who came up with cool ideas I might not have thought of. These things give me an advantage and I think it's unfair that others shouldn't have that same advantage if they're motivated enough to look for advice and just don't know the same people I do. So I'm putting as much as I can remember here, and hoping that if you read this and it helps you, that you will pass this knowledge on to help others too. This is just advice, a collection of things people have said that I've found helpful. It might not actually be the best advice, and it might not work for you. My best advice is to think critically about all the advice you get, and only do things when you have a good idea of why it might help you and think it's your best option.

trapcc - Computing with traps

This is a proof by construction that the Intel MMU's fault handling mechanism is Turing complete. We have constructed an assembler that translates 'Move, Branch if Zero, Decrement' instructions to C source that sets up various processor control tables. After this code has executed, the CPU computes by attempting to fault without ever executing a single instruction. Optionally, the assembler can also generate X86 instructions that will display variables in the VGA frame buffer and will cause control to be transferred between the native (display) instructions and 'weird machine' trap instructions. To read up on the awesome idea of weird machines and their uses, see @sergeybratus's and @halvarflake's work. In short, we are trying to find hidden state and derive computation of it in unexpected places. One practical use of this technique is for code obfuscation - many (kernel) debuggers will break due to the frequent context switches (esp. cooperative debuggers like KGDB) and analyzing the binary is going to be extraordinaly confusing, especially if normal X86 instructions and trap instructions are interleaved to do weird control transfer. Furthermore, out of the many virtual machines only Bochs runs such trap based programs correctly (and there are other tricks to distinguish bochs from a real box).

Update April 2017: It’s been almost a year since I posted this list of resources, and over the year there’s been an explosion of articles, videos, books, tutorials etc on the subject — even an explosion of ‘lists of resources’ such as this one. It’s impossible for me to keep this up to date. However, the one resource I would like to add is ( led by Gene Kogan. It’s specifically aimed at artists and the creative coding community. This is a very incomplete and subjective selection of resources to learn about the algorithms and maths of Artificial Intelligence (AI) / Machine Learning (ML) / Statistical Inference (SI) / Deep Learning (DL) / Reinforcement Learning (RL). It is aimed at beginners (those without Computer Science background and not knowing anything about these subjects) and hopes to take them to quite advanced levels (able to read and understand DL papers). It is not an exhaustive list and only contains some of the learning materials that I have personally completed so that I can include brief personal comments on them. It is also by no means the best path to follow (nowadays most MOOCs have full paths all the way from basic statistics and linear algebra to ML/DL). But this is the path I took and in a sense it's a partial documentation of my personal journey into DL (actually I bounced around all of these back and forth like crazy). As someone who has no formal background in Computer Science (but has been programming for many years), the language, notation and concepts of ML/SI/DL and even CS was completely alien to me, and the learning curve was not only steep, but vertical, treacherous and slippery like ice.

Kube-shell aims to provide ease-of-use of kubectl and increasing productivity.You can use up-arrow and down-arrow to walk through the history of commands executed. Also up-arrow partial string matching is possible. For e.g. enter 'kubectl get' and use up-arrow and down-arrow to browse through all kubectl get commands. You could also use CTRL+r to search from the history of commands.
