dredd - Language-agnostic HTTP API Testing Framework

  •    Javascript

Dredd is a language-agnostic command-line tool for validating API description document against backend implementation of the API. Dredd reads your API description and step by step validates whether your API implementation replies with responses as they are described in the documentation.

karate - Test Automation Made Simple

  •    Java

Karate is the only open-source tool to combine API test-automation, mocks, performance-testing and even UI automation into a single, unified framework. The BDD syntax popularized by Cucumber is language-neutral, and easy for even non-programmers. Assertions and HTML reports are built-in, and you can run tests in parallel for speed.

just-api - Easy and Flexible API Testing

  •    Javascript

Just-API is a declarative, specification based test framework for REST, GraphQL APIs. Users can test APIs without writing code, but they can also tap into code when they want to. It reads API test specification from YAML files and runs them in serial/parallel mode. Test reports can be generated in several formats including HTML and JSON. To run just-api, you will need Node.js v7.10.0 or newer.

Linux Desktop Testing Project

  •    C

Linux Desktop Testing Project is aimed at producing high quality test automation framework (using GNOME / Python) and cutting-edge tools that can be used to test Linux Desktop and improve it. It uses the Accessibility libraries to poke through the application's user interface. We strive to help in building a quality desktop.

Codeception - Full-stack testing PHP framework

  •    PHP

Codeception is a modern full-stack testing framework for PHP. Inspired by BDD, it provides an absolutely new way of writing acceptance, functional and even unit tests. Powered by PHPUnit. Codeception provides high-level domain language for tests. Tests are represented as a set of user's actions. Tests can be executed using Firefox, Chrome, Safari or Cloud Testing services with Selenium WebDriver. Browser can be emulated with HTTP-requests through CURL with PhpBrowser.

hypothesis - Hypothesis is a powerful, flexible, and easy to use library for property-based testing.

  •    Python

Hypothesis is family of testing libraries which let you write tests parametrized by a source of examples. A Hypothesis implementation then generates simple and comprehensible examples that make your tests fail. This simplifies writing your tests and makes them more powerful at the same time, by letting software automate the boring bits and do them to a higher standard than a human would, freeing you to focus on the higher level test logic. This sort of testing is often called "property-based testing", and the most widely known implementation of the concept is the Haskell library QuickCheck, but Hypothesis differs significantly from QuickCheck and is designed to fit idiomatically and easily into existing styles of testing that you are used to, with absolutely no familiarity with Haskell or functional programming needed.

Japa - API-first testing framework

  •    Typescript

Japa is an API-first testing framework. It focuses only on testing Node.js (backend) applications, thus resulting in a fast, small, and simple tests runner.

dockertest - Write better integration tests! Dockertest helps you boot up ephermal docker images for your Go tests with minimal work

  •    Go

When developing applications, it is often necessary to use services that talk to a database system. Unit Testing these services can be cumbersome because mocking database/DBAL is strenuous. Making slight changes to the schema implies rewriting at least some, if not all of the mocks. The same goes for API changes in the DBAL. To avoid this, it is smarter to test these specific services against a real database that is destroyed after testing. Docker is the perfect system for running unit tests as you can spin up containers in a few seconds and kill them when the test completes. The Dockertest library provides easy to use commands for spinning up Docker containers and using them for your tests.Using Dockertest is straightforward and simple. Check the releases tab for available releases.

Robolectric - Android Unit Testing Framework

  •    Java

Robolectric is the industry-standard unit testing framework for Android. With Robolectric, your tests run in a simulated Android environment inside a JVM, without the overhead and flakiness of an emulator. Robolectric tests routinely run 10x faster than those on cold-started emulators. Robolectric supports running unit tests for 16 different versions of Android, ranging from Jelly Bean (API level 16) to SV2 (API level 32).

Arquillian - Testing Platform for JVM

  •    Java

Arquillian is an innovative and highly extensible testing platform for the JVM that enables developers to easily create automated integration, functional and acceptance tests for Java middleware. Arquillian handles all the plumbing of container management, deployment and framework initialization so you can focus on the task at hand, writing your tests. Real tests.

vstest - Visual Studio Test Platform is the runner and engine that powers test explorer and vstest

  •    CSharp

The Visual Studio Test Platform is an open and extensible test platform that enables running tests, collect diagnostics data and report results. The Test Platform supports running tests written in various test frameworks, and using a pluggable adapter model. Based on user-choice, the desired test framework and its corresponding adapter can be acquired as a vsix or as NuGet package as the case may be. Adapters can be written in terms of a public API exposed by the Test Platform. The Test Platform currently ships as part Visual Studio 2017, and in the .NET Core Tools Preview 3.

KIF - Keep It Functional - An iOS Functional Testing Framework

  •    Objective-C

IMPORTANT! Even though KIF is used to test your UI, you need to add it to your Unit Test target, not your UI Test target. The magic of KIF is that it allows you to drive your UI from your unit tests and reap all the advantages of testing in-process. KIF, which stands for Keep It Functional, is an iOS integration test framework. It allows for easy automation of iOS apps by leveraging the accessibility attributes that the OS makes available for those with visual disabilities.

theft - property-based testing for C: generate input to find obscure bugs, then reduce to minimal failing input

  •    C

theft is a C library for property-based testing. Where example-based testing checks test results for specific input, theft tests assert general properties ("for any possible input, [some condition] should hold"), generate input, and search for counter-examples that make the test fail. If theft finds any failures, it also knows how to generate and test simpler variants of the input, and then report the simplest counter-example found. theft is distributed under the ISC license.

Selenium - Web app testing tool

  •    Java

Selenium is a suite of tools such as Selenium IDE, Selenium Remote Control and Selenium Grid to test the web application. Selenium IDE is an integrated development environment for Selenium scripts. It is implemented as a Firefox extension, and allows you to record, edit, and debug tests. It supports record and playback.

quixote - CSS unit and integration testing

  •    Javascript

Quixote is a library for testing CSS. It's fast—over 100 tests/second—and has a powerful API. You can use it for unit testing (test your CSS files directly) or integration testing (test against a real server). Either way, your tests check how HTML elements are actually rendered by the browser. Quixote runs in the browser and works with any test framework. You can even test multiple browsers simultaneously by using a tool such as Karma or Test'em. It works in modern desktop browsers, mobile browsers, and IE 8+.

rapidcheck - QuickCheck clone for C++ with the goal of being simple to use with as little boilerplate as possible

  •    C++

RapidCheck is a C++ framework for property based testing inspired by QuickCheck and other similar frameworks. In property based testing, you state facts about your code that given certain precondition should always be true. RapidCheck then generates random test data to try and find a case for which the property doesn't hold. If such a case is found, RapidCheck tries to find the smallest case (for some definition of smallest) for which the property is still false and then displays this as a counterexample. For example, if the input is an integer, RapidCheck tries to find the smallest integer for which the property is false. There are existing implementations of property based testing but the ones that I have found are either (in my humble opinion) a bit clunky or are missing essential features such as test case shrinking.

CodeceptJS - Supercharged End 2 End Testing Framework for NodeJS

  •    Javascript

CodeceptJS is a new testing framework for end-to-end testing with WebDriver (or others). It abstracts browser interaction to simple steps that are written from a user perspective. It is synchronous where you don't need to care about callbacks, or promises, test scenarios are linear. Run your tests via Playwright, WebDriver, Puppeteer, TestCafe, Protractor, Appium. The code is the same.
