atop - System and process monitor for Linux

  •    C

Atop is an ASCII full-screen performance monitor for Linux that is capable of reporting the activity of all processes (even if processes have finished during the interval), daily logging of system and process activity for long-term analysis, highlighting overloaded system resources by using colors, etcetera. At regular intervals, it shows system-level activity related to the CPU, memory, swap, disks (including LVM) and network layers, and for every process (and thread) it shows e.g. the CPU utilization, memory growth, disk utilization, priority, username, state, and exit code. In combination with the optional kernel module netatop, it even shows network activity per process/thread. In combination with the optional daemon atopgpud, it also shows GPU activity on system level and process level. Resource consumption by all processes. It shows the resource consumption by all processes that were active during the interval, so also the resource consumption by those processes that have finished during the interval.

I'm no longer actively maintaining this project. If you are interested supporting it - ping me on twitter. The only thing that I will ask you is to not change the API drastically. If you are planning on doing that - better start a brand new project. If you want me to transfer you only the name on npm, I'd be happy to only if the project does not have any downloads on npm lately. In case it's being downloaded, there are people that depend on it and might step up and start maintaining, so I will not transfer it to you, regardless if you want to release a new major version etc.

xnumon - monitor macOS for malicious activity

  •    C

xnumon is a monitoring agent that produces system activity logs intended to be suitable for monitoring potentially large fleets of macOS systems for malware and intrusions. It aims at providing similar capabilities on macOS that sysmon provides on Windows. xnumon provides context information such as executable image hashes, code signature meta-data, script shebang handling, and the history of previous executable images that led to the current process state. It does so by tracking fork and other syscalls instead of relying only on the ppid, which can change over the lifetime of a process. For the reliable acquisition of image hashes even from short-living or self-modifying executables, xnumon comes with an optional kernel extension.

sensu-plugins-process-checks - This plugin provides native process instrumentation for monitoring and metrics collection, including: process status, uptime, thread count, and others

  •    Ruby

check-processs and check-process-restart will check processes on a system and alert if specific conditions exist based upon a set of filters that each has implemented. check-cmd will run a specific user designated command and parse the output with a regex or check for a specific status code. If either of these conditions is not what is expected it will alert.
