Rufus - Create Bootable USB Flash Drive

  •    C

Rufus is a utility that helps format and create bootable USB flash drives. It can be especially useful for cases where you need to create USB installation media from bootable ISOs (Windows, Linux, UEFI, etc.), you need to flash a BIOS or other firmware from DOS, you need to work on a system that doesn't have an OS installed.

embiggen-disk - embiggden-disk live-resizes a filesystem after first live-resizing any necessary layers below it: an optional LVM LV and PV, and an MBR or GPT partition table

  •    Go

The embiggen-disk tool live-resizes a filesystem after first live-resizing any necessary layers below it: an optional LVM LV and PV, and an MBR or GPT partition table. It's only been tested on 64-bit x86 Linux ("amd64"). It should work on other Linux architectures.

node-disk - A node library for nice & easy disk interaction

  •    Javascript

Set up a device to work with. This can be anything with a blockdevice compatible API. Verify the backup GPT; NOTE: The callback will be called with an error and the backup GPT if it doesn't verify.

node-mbr - Master Boot Record (MBR)

  •    Javascript

Logical partitions are not entries in the MBR. They're constructed from the contents of an extended partition's Extended Boot Records (EBR), which are essentially the same in structure as an MBR and can be parsed with this module as well.

DiscImageChef - Disc Image Chef (because "swiss-army-knife" is used too much)

  •    CSharp

DiscImageChef is a fully featured media dump management solution. You usually know media dumps as disc images, disk images, tape images, etc. With DiscImageChef you can analyze a media dump, extract files from it (for supported filesystems), compare two of them, create them from real media using the appropriate drive, create a sidecar metadata with information about the media dump, and a lot of other features that commonly would require you to use separate applications.

bootcode_parser - A boot record parser that identifies known good signatures for MBR, VBR and IPL.

  •    Python

bootcode_parser.py is a Python script designed to perform a quick offline analysis of the boot records used by BIOS based systems (UEFI is not supported). It is intended to help the analyst triaging individual boot record dumps or whole disk images. The latter is preferred since it allows the script to perform additional checks that would not be possible on individual dumps alone.

BootMine - Bootable minesweeper game in a 512-byte boot sector

  •    Assembly

BootMine is an entire minesweeper game crammed into 512 bytes, the size of a BIOS boot sector. It can boot on any PC that supports BIOS booting, without running inside an OS. In a sense, BootMine is its own OS that can do nothing but run minesweeper. Alternatively, prebuilt versions can be downloaded from the releases page.
