PostGIS is a spatial database extender for PostgreSQL object-relational database. It adds support for geographic objects allowing location queries to be run in SQL. PostGIS adds extra types (geometry, geography, raster and others) to the PostgreSQL database. It also adds functions, operators, and index enhancements that apply to these spatial types.

It also gracefully handles leader elections, and tolerates failures of machines, including the leader. rqlite is available for Linux, OSX, and Microsoft Windows.rqlite gives you the functionality of a rock solid, fault-tolerant, replicated relational database, but with very easy installation, deployment, and operation. With it you've got a lightweight and reliable distributed relational data store. Think etcd or Consul, but with relational data modelling also available.

It's meant to be a performant alternative to non Go based key-value stores like RocksDB. It is written out of frustration with existing KV stores which are either written in pure Go and slow, or fast but require usage of Cgo. Badger aims to provide an equal or better speed compared to industry leading KV stores (like RocksDB), while maintaining the entire code base in pure Go.

It is engineered up from PostgreSQL, providing automatic partitioning across time and space (partitioning key), as well as full SQL support. TimescaleDB is packaged as a PostgreSQL extension and released under the Apache 2 open-source license.

It stores data in a single encrypted file. It supports both asymetric encryption using OpenPGP, and symmetric encryption using AES256. It can be easily synced across devices using Dropbox, OneDrive... It can be exported and imported to/from multiple remote storages using integrated S3, ssh, and gist support. If used with OpenPGP encryption, it is able to restrict access to the data store to a set of recipients.

It has more than 15 years of active development and a proven architecture that has earned it a strong reputation for reliability, data integrity, and correctness. It is fully ACID compliant, has full support for foreign keys, joins, views, triggers, and stored procedures (in multiple languages). It has native programming interfaces for most of the programming language.

Many of the current scalable NoSQL database offerings are based on a hash table design which means that the data they manage is not kept physically ordered. Hypertable keeps data physically sorted by a primary key and it is well suited for Analytics.

Simply point sandman2 to your database, add salt for seasoning, and voila!, a fully RESTful API service with hypermedia support starts running, ready to accept HTTP requests. This is a big deal. It means every single database you interact with, from the SQLite database that houses your web browser's data up to your production PostgreSQL server can be endowed with a REST API and accessed programatically, using any number of HTTP client libraries available in every language. sandman2 frees your data.

If you work on a big project with lots of migrations, every rake db:migrate might take a few seconds, or creating of a new database might take a few minutes. That's because ActiveRecord loads all those migration files. Squasher removes all the migrations and creates a single migration with the final database state of the specified date (the new migration will look like a schema). @note if you use Rbenv don't forget to run rbenv rehash.
