trace-nodejs - Trace is a visualised distributed tracing platform designed for microservices.

  •    Javascript

With version 3.x.x we have dropped support for Node v0.10. This means that future releases under this major version might contain code changes that are incompatible with Node.js v0.10 to an extent of crashing your application. Please consider updating to a newer runtime, especially that the maintenance of v0.10 has already ended. See our compatibility table below. Also, since 3.1.0 we switched to a different API backend for collecting traces which is incompatible with the old one. The old endpoint is still supported, but we would like it to be phased out eventually. Please update your agents to 3.1.0 or newer.

Zipkin - Distributed tracing system

  •    Java

Zipkin is a distributed tracing system. It helps gather timing data needed to troubleshoot latency problems in service architectures. Features include both the collection and lookup of this data. If you have a trace ID in a log file, you can jump directly to it. Otherwise, you can query based on attributes such as service, operation name, tags and duration. Some interesting data will be summarized for you, such as the percentage of time spent in a service, and whether or not operations failed.

coz - Coz: Causal Profiling

  •    C++

Coz is a new kind of profiler that unlocks optimization opportunities missed by traditional profilers. Coz employs a novel technique we call causal profiling that measures optimization potential. This measurement matches developers' assumptions about profilers: that optimizing highly-ranked code will have the greatest impact on performance. Causal profiling measures optimization potential for serial, parallel, and asynchronous programs without instrumentation of special handling for library calls and concurrency primitives. Instead, a causal profiler uses performance experiments to predict the effect of optimizations. This allows the profiler to establish causality: "optimizing function X will have effect Y," exactly the measurement developers had assumed they were getting all along. Full details of Coz are available in our paper, Coz: Finding Code that Counts with Causal Profiling (pdf), SOSP 2015, October 2015 (recipient of a Best Paper Award).

zipkin-go-opentracing - OpenTracing Tracer implementation for Zipkin in Go

pyflame - Pyflame: A Ptracing Profiler For Python

  •    C++

Pyflame is a high performance profiling tool that generates flame graphs for Python. Pyflame is implemented in C++, and uses the Linux ptrace(2) system call to collect profiling information. It can take snapshots of the Python call stack without explicit instrumentation, meaning you can profile a program without modifying its source code. Pyflame is capable of profiling embedded Python interpreters like uWSGI. It fully supports profiling multi-threaded Python programs.Pyflame usually introduces significantly less overhead than the builtin profile (or cProfile) modules, and emits richer profiling data. The profiling overhead is low enough that you can use it to profile live processes in production.

NTrace - High Performance Tracing for .NET Applications

  •

NTrace is a library that provides flexible, high-performance, and zero-config trace logging for your C# applications. NTrace is currently 100% C#.

uftrace - Function (graph) tracer for user-space

  •    C

The uftrace tool is to trace and analyze execution of a program written in C/C++. It was heavily inspired by the ftrace framework of the Linux kernel (especially function graph tracer) and supports userspace programs. It supports various kind of commands and filters to help analysis of the program execution and performance. It traces each function in the executable and shows time duration. It can also trace external library calls - but only entry and exit are supported and cannot trace internal function calls in the library call unless the library itself built with profiling enabled.

opencensus-java - A stats collection and distributed tracing framework

  •    Java

OpenCensus is a toolkit for collecting application performance and behavior data. It currently includes 3 apis: stats, tracing and tags. The library is in Beta stage and APIs are expected to be mostly stable. The library is expected to move to GA stage after v1.0.0 major release.

It includes preconfigured Grafana and Kibana dashboards that can be customized. It supports Real Time Metrics, Call tree of the current request including SQL statements to identify the bottlenecks of a request, Execution time and count of database interactions, Analyze the HTTP headers and lot more.

gophercon2018-performance-tuning-workshop - GopherCon 2018 Performance Tuning Workshop

  •    Go

The goal for this workshop is to give you the tools you need to diagnose performance problems in your Go applications and fix them. Through the day we'll work from the small -- learning how to write benchmarks, then profiling a small piece of code. Then step out and talk about the execution tracer, the garbage collector and tracing running applications. The remainder of the day will be a chance for you to ask questions, experiment with your own code.
