Ts2mkv - Script to convert (DVB) .ts into H.264/AAC encoded mkv
ts2mkvThis script is about to convert MPEG-2 .ts files (copied e.g. from DVB receivers) into mkv (Matroska) container including H.264 encoded video and AAC encoded audio. This combination is well supported by various modern media players. The script supports DVB subtitles which are used by YLE (the Finnish Broadcasting Company). The script supports excluding some audio or subtitle languages. For example YLE uses "dut" as dubbed audio and hearing-impaired subtitle tracks and this language is excluded by default. The script utilizes ProjectX (tweaked version bundled), mencoder, ffmpeg and mkvtoolnix. Current status: The implementation is ongoing. First somehow working version is available in Downloads. Tested with (K)Ubuntu 10.04. InstallationSee InstallationInstructions UsageJust execute the script with the .ts file as a parameter. E.g.: ts2mkv my_recording.ts The mkv files will appear in current working directory. The script also generates a batch file containing all executed commands and their durations. The file is actually a full-working bash script that can be executed and, by that, reproduce the whole conversion procedure again. All temporary files are deleted after conversion. Warning: The conversion takes ages.
