Snickers is an open source alternative to the existent cloud encoding services. It is a HTTP API that encode videos. First make sure you have Go and FFmpeg with --enable-shared installed on your machine. If you don't know what this means, look at how the dependencies are being installed on our Dockerfile.

It doesn't do any decoding / encoding and is therefore extremely fast. This app uses the awesome ffmpeg (included) for doing the grunt work. Since LosslessCut is based on Chromium and uses the HTML5 video player, not all ffmpeg supported formats will be supported. ipod-encoder is a commandline frontend for ffmpeg, which simplifies encoding video files for use on the new 5G iPod. Besides encoding of single files, the program supports batch encoding of whole directories, and automatic generation of podcasts.

Enigmamachine is a video processor which queues and encodes videos according to target profiles that you define. Videos must be on a locally mounted filesystem. The processor takes the path to the video, and executes one or more ffmpeg commands on the video. There is a handy web interface for defining encoding tasks, and a restful web service which takes encoding commands.

FMJ is an alternative to Java Media Framework (JMF), while remaining API-compatible with JMF. It aims to produce a single API/Framework which can be used to capture, playback, process, and stream media across multiple platforms. The sub-projects, FFMPEG-Java and Theora-Java, are Java wrappers for FFMPEG and Vorbis respectively. Its sister project is LTI-CIVIL and it is used as the primary video capture device library.

ffmpeg-libav-tutorial - [WIP] Learn FFmpeg libav the Hard Way

I was looking for a tutorial/book that would teach me how to start to use FFmpeg as a library (a.k.a. libav) and then I found the "How to write a video player in less than 1k lines" tutorial. Unfortunately it was deprecated, so I decided to write this one. Most of the code in here will be in c but don't worry: you can easily understand and apply it to your preferred language. FFmpeg libav has lots of bindings for many languages like python, go and even if your language doesn't have it, you can still support it through the ffi (here's an example with Lua).

moviepy - Video editing with Python

MoviePy (full documentation) is a Python library for video editing: cutting, concatenations, title insertions, video compositing (a.k.a. non-linear editing), video processing, and creation of custom effects. See the gallery for some examples of use. MoviePy depends on the Python modules Numpy, imageio, Decorator, and tqdm, which will be automatically installed during MoviePy's installation. The software FFMPEG should be automatically downloaded/installed (by imageio) during your first use of MoviePy (installation will take a few seconds). If you want to use a specific version of FFMPEG, follow the instructions in In case of trouble, provide feedback.
