ember-sass-express-starter - Starter project for Ember+Express apps

  •        8

Thanks to Ember's Convention-over-Configuration we are quickly able to generate application files with a simple command. That is a huge time saver in the long run.To start a web server, run npm start. Note: MongoDB must be running or else the server won't start. Then visit http://localhost:3000. There are no server-side views, thus you will not see res.render anywhere in the code. The index.html is loaded implicitly from the /public folder. And index.html in turn loads the entire Ember application.

skeleton - Node Express MongoDB Bootstrap Passport... all rolled up into juicy goodness

  •    Javascript

I borrowed heavily from Hackathon-starter and Drywall. The reason is third party OAUTH authentication is painful. Passportjs helps tremendously but there are not many good examples of how to use it. Both of these frameworks really show how it's done. Both are actively maintained and are really great starting points. I recommend either of them highly. Of the two, Drywall is more sophisticated. It has an extensive User/Account/Roles system to handle different types of accounts and account permissions. It also has a very cool Administration area. In addition, the client side uses Backbone. This framework allows for unique scripts and css on a per page basis - nice! Overall this framework has some GREAT stuff in it. It's just maybe a little too big/rich if you just want to start building a simple site.

bootswatch-rails - Bootswatches converted to SCSS ready to use in Rails asset pipeline.

  •    Ruby

This gem is meant to be used with bootstrap-sass. It gives you complete scss versions of bootswatches for use in your Rails asset pipeline, just like bootstrap-sass gives you scss version of bootstrap itself. When using bootstrap-sass, it's recommended to avoid sprockets in your stylesheets. In order to do that you simply rename your application.css file to application.css.scss, remove all sprockets comments, and instead use sass @import commands. These commands are smart enough to fully support asset pipeline load paths, thanks to sass-rails gem.

Yeoman generators provides a powerful, easy to maintain, and open solution for scaffolding applications.
