If you complete all of the exercises you should be well on your way to understanding how you can use bolt and Puppet Tasks to help manage your infrastructure. These exercises will help you get bolt installed and make sure you have a few nodes to target with tasks and commands.

Puppet modules often take on the same file system structure. The built-in puppet-module tool makes starting modules easy, but the build in skeleton module is very simple. This skeleton is very opinionated. It's going to assume you're going to start out with tests (both unit and system), that you care about the puppet style guide, test using Travis, keep track of releases and structure your modules according to strong conventions. As a feature, puppet module tool will use ~/.puppet/var/puppet-module/skeleton (or ~/.puppetlabs/opt/puppet/cache/puppet-module/ for Puppet 4) as template for its generate command. The files provided here are meant to be better templates for use with the puppet module tool.

The MapReduce C++ Library implements a single-machine platform for programming using the the Google MapReduce idiom. Users specify a map function that processes a key/value pair to generate a set of intermediate key/value pairs, and a reduce function that merges all intermediate values associated with the same intermediate key. Many real world tasks are expressible in this model, as shown in the Google paper. The developer is required to write two classes; MapTask implements a mapping function to process key/value pairs generate a set of intermediate key/value pairs and ReduceTask that implements a reduce function to merges all intermediate values associated with the same intermediate key. In addition, there are three optional template parameters that can be used to modify the default implementation behavior; Datasource that implements a mechanism to feed data to the Map Tasks - on request of the MapReduce library, Combiner that can be used to partially consolidate results of the Map Task before they are passed to the Reduce Tasks, and IntermediateStore that handles storage, merging and sorting of intermediate results between the Map and Reduce phases. The MapTask class must define four data types; the key/value types for the inputs to the Map Tasks and the intermediate types.

DeepLabCut - Markerless tracking of user-defined features with deep learning

Welcome to the DeepLabCut repository, a toolbox for markerless tracking of body parts of animals in lab settings performing various tasks, like trail tracking, reaching in mice and various Drosophila behaviors during egg-laying (see Mathis et al. for details). There is, however, nothing specific that makes the toolbox only applicable to these tasks and/or species. The toolbox has also already been successfully applied to rats, humans, various fish species, bacteria, leeches, various robots, and race horses. Please check out www.mousemotorlab.org/deeplabcut for video demonstrations of automated tracking. This work utilizes the feature detectors (ResNet + readout layers) of one of the state-of-the-art algorithms for human pose estimation by Insafutdinov et al., called DeeperCut, which inspired the name for our toolbox (see references below).

Chris Fonnesbeck is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biostatistics at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. He specializes in computational statistics, Bayesian methods, meta-analysis, and applied decision analysis. He originally hails from Vancouver, BC and received his Ph.D. from the University of Georgia. This tutorial will introduce the use of Python for statistical data analysis, using data stored as Pandas DataFrame objects. Much of the work involved in analyzing data resides in importing, cleaning and transforming data in preparation for analysis. Therefore, the first half of the course is comprised of a 2-part overview of basic and intermediate Pandas usage that will show how to effectively manipulate datasets in memory. This includes tasks like indexing, alignment, join/merge methods, date/time types, and handling of missing data. Next, we will cover plotting and visualization using Pandas and Matplotlib, focusing on creating effective visual representations of your data, while avoiding common pitfalls. Finally, participants will be introduced to methods for statistical data modeling using some of the advanced functions in Numpy, Scipy and Pandas. This will include fitting your data to probability distributions, estimating relationships among variables using linear and non-linear models, and a brief introduction to bootstrapping methods. Each section of the tutorial will involve hands-on manipulation and analysis of sample datasets, to be provided to attendees in advance.
