Nowadays an iOS project is more than only a *.xcodeproj file with some self-written Objective-C or Swift files. We have a lot of direct and indirect external dependencies in our projects and each new developer on the project or the build server have to get these. Developers need these before working on the app and the build server to build and deploy the app. Code: Because we don’t want reinvent the wheel for parts of our apps again and again, we use third-party libraries for common use cases. E.g. we use Alamofire for our network stack. To reach this goal you should use a dependency manager, which cares about these problems. The principle „never change a running“ system should not apply to third-party dependencies. Virtualgo - Easy and powerful workspace based development for go

Virtualgo (or vg for short) is a tool which provides workspace based development for Go. Virtualgo doesn't do dependency resolution or version pinning itself, because this is a hard problem that's already being solved by other tools. Its approach is to build on top of these tools, such as dep, to provide the features features listed above. For people coming from Python vg is very similar to virtualenv, with dep being respective to pip. The main difference is that vg is much easier to use than virtualenv, because there's almost no mental overhead in using vg.

gradle-tips - Gradle tips for all of us

Over last year or so I have started using Gradle as my primary build tool for JVM based projects. Before using Gradle I was an Apache Maven user. Gradle takes best from both Apache Maven and Apache Ant providing you best of both worlds. Gradle borrows flexibility from Ant and convention over configuration, dependency management and plugins from Maven. Gradle treats task as first class citizen just like Ant. A Gradle build has three distinct phases - initialization, configuration, and execution. The initialization phase determine which all projects will take part in the build process and create a Project instance for each of the project. During configuration phase, it execute build scripts of all the project that are taking part in build process. Finally, during the execution phase all the tasks configured during the configuration phase are executed.
