BuckleScript leverages the existing OCaml compiler and toolchain to produce JavaScript that closely resembles the original OCaml. It isn't a new language. It simply takes OCaml, a fast, pragmatic and typed language, and makes it compile to clean, readable and performant JavaScript code. This allows the users to write in an industrial-strength language while using the existing, familiar JavaScript tools (npm/yarn, bundlers, minifiers, devtools, etc.) and accessing the vast ecosystem from both JavaScript and OCaml.

8cc is a compiler for the C programming language. It's intended to support all C11 language features while keeping the code as small and simple as possible. The compiler is able to compile itself. You can see its code both as an implementation of the C language and as an example of what this compiler is able to compile.

luajit-lang-toolkit - A Lua bytecode compiler written in Lua itself for didactic purposes or for new language implementations

The LuaJIT Language Toolkit is an implementation of the Lua programming language written in Lua itself. It works by generating LuaJIT bytecode, including debug information, and uses LuaJIT's virtual machine to run the generated bytecode. On its own, the language toolkit does not do anything useful, since LuaJIT itself does the same things natively. The purpose of the language toolkit is to provide a starting point to implement a programming language that targets the LuaJIT virtual machine.

The mypy programming language is an experimental Python variant that aims to combine the benefits of dynamic (or "duck") typing and static typing. The goal is to have the expressive power and convenience of Python, and also compile-time type checking and efficient compilation to native code, without the need of a heavy-weight VM. Mypy will get rid of the Global Interpreter Lock (GIL) that is used in CPython and allow parallel programs to take advantage of multicore processors.

It was conceived as an implementation of Python written in Python, which enables Python developers to hack the implementation.

PH7 - An Embedded Implementation of PHP (C Library)

PH7 is a in-process software C library which implements a highly-efficient embeddable bytecode compiler and a virtual machine for the PHP programming language. In other words, PH7 is a PHP engine which allow the host application to compile and execute PHP scripts in-process. PH7 is to PHP what SQLite is to SQL. As an embedded interpreter, it allows multiple interpreter states to coexist in the same program, without any interference between them. Programmatically, foreign functions in C/C++ can be added and values can be defined in the PHP environment. Being a quite small program, it is easy to comprehend, get to grips with, and use.

Red has its own complete cross-platform toolchain, featuring two compilers, an interpreter and a linker, not depending on any third-party library, except for a Rebol2 interpreter, required during the bootstrap phase. Once complete, Red will be self-hosted.

thinscript - A low-level programming language inspired by TypeScript

ThinScript is an experimental programming language that compiles to JavaScript, WebAssembly, and C. It's meant to be a thin layer on top of WebAssembly that makes it easier to work with: no dependencies and fast compile times. The syntax is inspired by TypeScript and the compiler is open source and bootstrapped (it can compile itself). This is still an experiment and isn't intended for real use yet. The biggest issue is that the generated code currently doesn't delete anything (garbage collection is planned but not yet implemented). Also the WebAssembly specification is still being developed and the current binary format will stop working when WebAssembly is officially released.

⚠ Please note that while Emu 0.2.0 is quite usable, it suffers from 2 key issues. It firstly does nothing to minimize CPU-GPU data transfer and secondly it's compiler is not well-tested. These can be reasons not to use Emu 0.2.0. A new version of Emu is in the works, however, with significant improvements in the language, compiler, and compile-time checker. Welcome! This book will teach you about the Rust Programming Language. Rust is a systems programming language focused on three goals: safety, speed, and concurrency. It maintains these goals without having a garbage collector, making it a useful language for a number of use cases other languages aren’t good at: embedding in other languages, programs with specific space and time requirements, and writing low-level code, like device drivers and operating systems. It improves on current languages targeting this space by having a number of compile-time safety checks that produce no runtime overhead, while eliminating all data races. Rust also aims to achieve ‘zero-cost abstractions’ even though some of these abstractions feel like those of a high-level language. Even then, Rust still allows precise control like a low-level language would. This is Rust-101, a small tutorial for the Rust language. It is intended to be an interactive, hands-on course: I believe the only way to really learn a language is to write code in it, so you should be coding during the course. If you have any questions that are not answered here, check out the "Additional Resources" below. In particular, the IRC channel is filled with awesome people willing to help you! I spent lots of time there ;-) I will assume some familiarity with programming, and hence not explain the basic concepts common to most languages. Instead, I will focus on what makes Rust special.

Slang was created to explore implementing a programming language entirely in the browser. Parsing is handled by Ohm.js using a custom grammar, the editor uses CodeMirror with a simple syntax definition, and the runtime itself is written in JS using the Web Audio API. I've always wanted to write a programming language from scratch, but as someone who didn't study computer science I find it incredibly intimidating. Discovering Ohm.js changed my mind; its incredible editor and approachable JS API make it possible to experiment quickly with a lot of feedback. This project is my first pass at building a language and runtime environment from start to finish.
