Schedule background jobs that run your JavaScript when your app is in the background or if you feel brave even in foreground. The jobs will run even if the app has been closed and, by default, also persists over restarts.

Faktory - "Takin' care of business, workin' overtime"

  •    Go

At a high level, Faktory is a work server. It is the repository for background jobs within your application. Jobs have a type and a set of arguments and are placed into queues for workers to fetch and execute. You can use this server to distribute jobs to one or hundreds of machines. Jobs can be executed with any language by clients using the Faktory API to fetch a job from a queue.

resque - Resque is a Redis-backed Ruby library for creating background jobs, placing them on multiple queues, and processing them later

  •    Ruby

Resque (pronounced like "rescue") is a Redis-backed library for creating background jobs, placing those jobs on multiple queues, and processing them later. Background jobs can be any Ruby class or module that responds to perform. Your existing classes can easily be converted to background jobs or you can create new classes specifically to do work. Or, you can do both.

Hangfire - An easy way to perform background job processing in your

  •    CSharp

Incredibly easy way to perform fire-and-forget, delayed and recurring jobs inside ASP.NET applications. CPU and I/O intensive, long-running and short-running jobs are supported. No Windows Service / Task Scheduler required. Backed by Redis, SQL Server, SQL Azure and MSMQ.Hangfire is a .NET Framework alternative to Resque, Sidekiq, delayed_job, Celery.

android-job - Android library to handle jobs in the background.

  •    Java

A utility library for Android to run jobs delayed in the background. Depending on the Android version either the JobScheduler, GcmNetworkManager or AlarmManager is getting used. You can find out in this blog post or in these slides why you should prefer this library than each separate API. All features from Android Oreo are backward compatible back to Ice Cream Sandwich. Starting with version 1.3.0 the library will use the WorkManager internally, please read the documentation and opt-in.

jobs - A persistent and flexible background jobs library for go.

  •    Go

A persistent and flexible background jobs library for go.Jobs is intended to be used in web applications. It is useful for cases where you need to execute some long-running code, but you don't want your users to wait for the code to execute before rendering a response. A good example is sending a welcome email to your users after they sign up. You can use Jobs to schedule the email to be sent asynchronously, and render a response to your user without waiting for the email to be sent. You could use a goroutine to accomplish the same thing, but in the event of a server restart or power loss, the email might never be sent. Jobs guarantees that the email will be sent at some time and allows you to spread the work between different machines.

work - Process background jobs in Go

  •    Go

gocraft/work lets you enqueue and processes background jobs in Go. Jobs are durable and backed by Redis. Very similar to Sidekiq for Go.To enqueue jobs, you need to make an Enqueuer with a redis namespace and a redigo pool. Each enqueued job has a name and can take optional arguments. Arguments are k/v pairs (serialized as JSON internally).

react-native-queue - A React Native Job Queue

  •    Javascript

A React Native at-least-once priority job queue / task queue backed by persistent Realm storage. Jobs will persist until completed, even if user closes and re-opens app. React Native Queue is easily integrated into OS background processes (services) so you can ensure the queue will continue to process until all jobs are completed even if app isn't in focus. It also plays well with Workers so your jobs can be thrown on the queue, then processed in dedicated worker threads for greatly improved processing performance. React Native Queue is designed to be a swiss army knife for task management in React Native. It abstracts away the many annoyances related to processing complex tasks, like durability, retry-on-failure, timeouts, chaining processes, and more. Just throw your jobs onto the queue and relax - they're covered.

Sidekiq - Simple, efficient background processing for Ruby

  •    Ruby

Simple, efficient background processing for Ruby. Sidekiq uses threads to handle many jobs at the same time in the same process. It does not require Rails but will integrate tightly with Rails 3/4 to make background processing dead simple. Sidekiq uses multithreading so it is much more memory efficient than Resque (which forks a new process for every job).

goworker - Go-based background worker

  •    Go

goworker is a Go-based background worker that runs 10 to 100,000* times faster than Ruby-based workers. goworker is compatible with Resque, so you can push your jobs with Rails and Resque, and consume them with Go in the background

queue - A persistent background job queue for iOS.

  •    Objective-C

While NSOperation and NSOperationQueue work well for some repetitive problems and NSInvocation for others, iOS doesn't really include a set of tools for managing large collections of arbitrary background tasks easily. EDQueue provides a high-level interface for implementing a threaded job queue using GCD and SQLLite3. All you need to do is handle the jobs within the provided delegate method and EDQueue handles the rest. The easiest way to get going with EDQueue is to take a look at the included example application. The Xcode project file can be found in Project > queue.xcodeproj.

Resque - Job queue in Ruby

  •    Ruby

Resque is a Redis-backed Ruby library for creating background jobs, placing them on multiple queues, and processing them later. Queues are picked off in order of their priority. A job from a lower priority queue will only be picked off if there are no jobs for a higher priority queue available.

firebase-jobdispatcher-android - The Firebase JobDispatcher is a library for scheduling background jobs in your Android app

  •    Java

The Firebase JobDispatcher is a library for scheduling background jobs in your Android app. It provides a JobScheduler-compatible API that works on all recent versions of Android (API level 9+) that have Google Play services installed. The JobScheduler is an Android system service available on API levels 21 (Lollipop)+. It provides an API for scheduling units of work (represented by JobService subclasses) that will be executed in your app's process.

node-resque - It's Resque... For node! Background jobs using redis.

  •    Javascript

new queue requires only the "queue" variable to be set. You can also pass the jobs hash to it.The configuration hash passed to new NodeResque.Worker, new NodeResque.Scheduler or new NodeResque.Queue can also take a connection option.

qu - a Ruby library for queuing and processing background jobs.

  •    Ruby

Qu is a Ruby library for queuing and processing background jobs. It is heavily inspired by delayed_job and Resque. Decide which backend you want to use and add the gem to your Gemfile.

Fireworq - Lightweight, high-performance, language-independent job queue system

  •    Go

Fireworq is a lightweight, high-performance job queue system with the following abilities. It is available from ANY programming language which can talk HTTP. It works with a single binary without external dependencies. It is built on top of RDBMS (MySQL), so that jobs won't be lost even if the job queue process dies. You can apply an ordinary replication scheme to the underlying DB for the reliability of the DB itself.

chronos - Fault tolerant job scheduler for Mesos which handles dependencies and ISO8601 based schedules

  •    Scala

Chronos is a replacement for cron. It is a distributed and fault-tolerant scheduler that runs on top of Apache Mesos that can be used for job orchestration. It supports custom Mesos executors as well as the default command executor. Thus by default, Chronos executes sh (on most systems bash) scripts. Chronos can be used to interact with systems such as Hadoop (incl. EMR), even if the Mesos agents on which execution happens do not have Hadoop installed. Included wrapper scripts allow transfering files and executing them on a remote machine in the background and using asynchronous callbacks to notify Chronos of job completion or failures. Chronos is also natively able to schedule jobs that run inside Docker containers.
