You can build the SD card image locally with Vagrant. Make sure you have vagrant installed. Then run the following command to create the Vagrant box and use the Vagrant Docker daemon. Nexmon is our C-based firmware patching framework for Broadcom/Cypress WiFi chips that enables you to write your own firmware patches, for example, to enable monitor mode with radiotap headers and frame injection. Before we started to work on this repository, we developed patches for the Nexus 5 (with bcm4339 WiFi chip) in the bcm-public repository and those for the Raspberry Pi 3 (with bcm43430a1 WiFi chip) in the bcm-rpi3 repository. To remove the development overhead of maintaining multiple separate repositories, we decided to merge them in this repository and add support for some additional devices. In contrast to the former repositories, here, you can only build the firmware patch without drivers and kernels. The Raspberry Pi 3 makes an exception, as here it is always required to also build the driver.

This repository contains a step-by-step guide that teaches how to create a simple operating system (OS) kernel from scratch. I call this OS Raspberry Pi OS or just RPi OS. The RPi OS source code is largely based on Linux kernel, but the OS has very limited functionality and supports only Raspberry PI 3. Each lesson is designed in such a way that it first explains how some kernel feature is implemented in the RPi OS, and then it tries to demonstrate how the same functionality works in the Linux kernel. Each lesson has a corresponding folder in the src directory, which contains a snapshot of the OS source code at the time when the lesson had just been completed. An on demand Docker virtual machine, thanks to Vagrant and boot2docker. Works great on Macs and other platforms that don't natively support the Docker daemon. Under the covers this is downloading and booting Mitchell Hashimoto's boot2docker Vagrant Box image. The driving need for something like dvm was for running infrastructure testing, like Test Kitchen using the kitchen-docker driver. For the driver to work it needs access to all the dynamically assigned ports, not just the Docker daemon port. That's why dvm uses a private network segment and address (192.168.42.43 by default). Once Docker started supporting the DOCKER_HOST environment variable, the actual IP address was less important and consequently made the docker command on non-Linux distros feel almost native.
