pi-webcam - Automation to configure a Raspberry Pi as a USB OTG webcam

Inspired by David Hunt's blog post showing how to use a Raspberry Pi Zero with a Pi Camera as a USB Webcam, as well as justinschuldt's gist, I wanted to make my Raspberry Pi do the same thing, but automated and with all the scripts wrapped in version control, since the blog post was a little bit vague in some areas. This Ansible playbook can be run on most Raspberry Pis to set it up as a USB webcam.

Camera to Jpeg Files

This is a WPF app that is based on DirectShow. It takes the input from a web camera and turns it into a sequence of JPEG images. I need this for another project but I thought I might share this part anyway in case anyone needs similar solution.

This sample demonstrates using the Camera2 API to capture a JPEG and RAW sensor frame. Check the source code to see a typical example of how to display the camera preview; run auto-focus, auto-exposure metering, and auto-white-balance; capture a JPEG and RAW image for the same sensor frame; and save these into MediaStore for use in other applications. The Camera2 API allows users to capture RAW images, i.e. unprocessed pixel data directly from the camera sensor that has not yet been converted into a format and colorspace typically used for displaying and storing images viewed by humans. The DngCreator class is provided as part of the Camera2 API as a utility for saving RAW images as DNG files.

node-exif - A node.js library to extract Exif metadata from images.

With node-exif you can extract Exif metadata from images (JPEG). Exif is a format used, for example, by digital cameras and scanners to save additional information about an image in the image file. This information can be the camera model, resolution, where the image was taken (GPS) or when it was taken. Rodrigo Espinosa proposes the npm package exif-cli to execute node-exif from a shell.
