JPNG - JPNG is a bespoke image file format that combines the compression benefits of JPEG with the alpha channel support of a PNG file

  •    Objective-C

In iOS and Mac OS apps there is typically a choice of two image formats: PNG format allows transparency but produces large image files and is unsuited to compressing images like photographs; JPEG is great for creating small files and provides a range of compression qualities to suit the subject matter, but doesn't allow for transparency. JPNG is a new image format that combines the best of both of the other formats. JPNG is not really a format in its own right, it's a simple file wrapper that combines a JPEG and PNG image within the same file. JPEG is used to efficiently compress the RGB portion of the image and PNG is used to store the alpha channel.

ios-twitter-image-pipeline - Twitter Image Pipeline is a robust and performant image loading and caching framework for iOS clients

  •    Objective-C

The Twitter Image Pipeline is a streamlined framework for fetching and storing images in an application. The high level concept is that all requests to fetch or store an image go through an image pipeline which encapsulates the work of checking the in memory caches and an on disk cache before retrieving the image from over the network as well as keeping the caches both up to date and pruned.Twitter Image Pipeline came to fruition as numerous needs rose out of Twitter for iOS use cases. The system for image loading prior to TIP was fragile and inefficient with some severe edge cases. Designing a new framework from the ground up to holistically approach the need for loading images was the best route and led to TIP.

Flyimg - Microservice to resize and crop images on the fly

  •    PHP

Image resizing, cropping and compression on the fly with the impressive MozJPEG compression algorithm. One Docker container to build your own Cloudinary-like service. You pass the image URL and a set of keys with options, like size or compression. Flyimg will fetch the image, convert it, store it, cache it and serve it. The next time the request comes, it will serve the cached version.

react-native-image-picker - A React Native module that allows you to use native UI to select media from the device library or directly from the camera

  •    Java

This library started as a basic bridge of the native iOS image picker, and I want to keep it that way. As such, functionality beyond what the native UIImagePickerController supports will not be supported here. Multiple image selection, more control over the crop tool, and landscape support are things missing from the native iOS functionality - not issues with my library. If you need these things, react-native-image-crop-picker might be a better choice for you. IMPORTANT NOTE: You'll still need to perform step 4 for iOS and steps 2 and 5 for Android of the manual instructions below.

Crunch - Insane(ly slow but wicked good) PNG image optimization

  •    Python

Crunch is a tool for lossy PNG image file optimization. It combines selective bit depth, color type, and color palette reduction with zopfli DEFLATE compression algorithm encoding using the pngquant and zopflipng PNG optimization tools. This approach leads to a significant file size gain relative to lossless approaches at the expense of a relatively modest decrease in image quality (see example images below). Historical benchmarks with the files included in Cédric Louvrier's PNG Test Corpus versus other commonly used PNG optimization software are available in BENCHMARKS.md.

react-native-image-gallery - Pure JavaScript image gallery component for iOS and Android with high-performance and native feeling in mind

  •    Javascript

A pure JavaScript image gallery component for React Native apps with common gestures like pan, pinch and doubleTap, supporting both iOS and Android. This component utilizes @ldn0x7dc/react-native-view-pager as the scrollable container and react-native-transformable-image as the wrapped image.

react-native-image-crop-picker - iOS/Android image picker with support for camera, configurable compression, multiple images and cropping

  •    Objective-C

Android: The prop 'cropping' has been known to cause videos not to be display in the gallery on Android. Please do not set cropping to true when selecting videos.Module is creating tmp images which are going to be cleaned up automatically somewhere in the future. If you want to force cleanup, you can use clean to clean all tmp files, or cleanSingle(path) to clean single tmp file.

php-image-cache - Image Cache is a very simple PHP class that accepts an image source and will compress and cache the file, move it to a new directory, and returns the new source for the image

  •    PHP

Image Cache is a very simple PHP class that accepts an image source and will compress and cache the file, move it to a new directory, and returns the new source for the image. Employing travis-ci.org for continuous integration testing and assurance of code validity.

GPUImage - An open source iOS framework for GPU-based image and video processing

  •    Objective-C

The GPUImage framework is a BSD-licensed iOS library that lets you apply GPU-accelerated filters and other effects to images, live camera video, and movies. In comparison to Core Image (part of iOS 5.0), GPUImage allows you to write your own custom filters, supports deployment to iOS 4.0, and has a simpler interface. However, it currently lacks some of the more advanced features of Core Image, such as facial detection. For massively parallel operations like processing images or live video frames, GPUs have some significant performance advantages over CPUs. On an iPhone 4, a simple image filter can be over 100 times faster to perform on the GPU than an equivalent CPU-based filter.

buffer-ios-image-viewer - The BFRImageViewer is a turnkey solution to present images within your iOS app 🎉!

  •    Objective-C

It features swipe gestures to dismiss, automatic image scaling, zooming and panning, supports multiple images, image types, URL backloading, custom view controller transitions, built in parallax effect, live photos and plays nicely with 3D touch! We use it all over the place in Buffer for iOS :-). We've got code samples of each feature in the demo app, feel free to take a peek 👀.

spectrum - A client-side image transcoding library.

  •    C++

Spectrum is a cross-platform image transcoding library that can easily be integrated into an Android or iOS project to efficiently perform common image operations. The Spectrum APIs incorporate declarative traits. This simplifies the usage for the developer by focusing on the desired outcome. At the same time it enables Spectrum to transparently choose the best execution sequence. Additionally, Spectrum makes common image operations simple by surfacing many difficult operations that are not typically exposed by platform frameworks. For example, some JPEG-to-JPEG operations like cropping are executed lossless, and disabling chroma sub-sampling when saving graphical JPEGs will lead to better quality final products.

ios-imagefile-megapixel - Fixes iOS6 Safari's image file rendering issue for large size image (over mega-pixel), which causes unexpected subsampling when drawing it in canvas

  •    Javascript

Fixes iOS6 Safari's image file rendering issue for large size image (over mega-pixel), which causes unexpected subsampling when drawing it in canvas. By using this library, you can safely render the image with proper stretching. Although it mainly focuses fixing iOS Safari related issues, it can be safely used in the envionments other than iOS6.

ImgBot - An Azure Function solution to crawl through all of your image files in GitHub and losslessly compress them

  •    CSharp

ImgBot crawls all your image files in GitHub and submits pull requests after applying a lossless compression. This will make the file size go down, but leave the dimensions and quality just as good. ImgBot supports optional configuration through a .imgbotconfig json file. This is not a required step to using ImgBot and is only for more advanced scenarios. This file should be placed in the root of the repository and set to your liking.

FastImageCache - iOS library for quickly displaying images while scrolling

  •    Objective-C

Fast Image Cache is an efficient, persistent, and—above all—fast way to store and retrieve images in your iOS application. Part of any good iOS application's user experience is fast, smooth scrolling, and Fast Image Cache helps make this easier. A significant burden on performance for graphics-rich applications like Path is image loading. The traditional method of loading individual images from disk is just too slow, especially while scrolling. Fast Image Cache was created specifically to solve this problem.
