org-brain - Org-mode wiki + concept-mapping

org-brain implements a variant of concept mapping in Emacs, using org-mode. It is heavily inspired by a piece of software called The Brain, and you can view an introduction to that program here. They also provide a blog with great ideas of how you can think when organizing your Brain. You can think of org-brain as a combination of a wiki and a mind map, where each wiki page / mind map node is an org-mode file which resides in your org-brain-path, or a headline with an ID property in one of those files. These are called entries. Entries can be linked together, and you can then view the network of links as a mind map, using M-x org-brain-visualize.

This project is an experiment in client-side data processing and visualization. Most of the code in this project is taken from https://github.com/cambecc/earth and has been re-purposed to support easier application to a variety of mapping APIs and Frameworks. The code for this project uses nothing but an HTML5 Canvas element and pure Javascript. The data come from the Global Forecast System which produces a large variety of datasets as continuous global gridded datasets (more info below). The data is passed into a JS class called Windy which takes the bounds of the map, the data, and the canvas element and then applies a Bilinear Interpolation to generate a smooth surface. Once the surface has been generated a function randomly places "particles" onto the canvas at random x/y points. Each particle is then "evolved", moving in a direction and at a velocity dictated by the interpolated surface.

The original intent of this project was to note down the syntax and basic conceptes of Javascript for personal use, also used as a syllabus for teaching at the same time. The effectiveness of using a Mind map diagram to summarize a programming language is totally unexpected, it looks like a catalogue of handbook talking about Javascript and filled with syntax details. With a single picture/file, Javascript programmers can not only have a overview of the whole picture of this language, but also could locate to practical syntax examples ASAP. The original mindmap diagram is drawn with Mindnode and exported to PDF/PNG/OPML files along with a *.mm file which can be edited with FreeMind, another SVG file will be released after the whole project is finished(issues #9).
