SAGA is a free geographic information system (GIS), with a special 'Application Programming Interface' (API) for geographic data processing. This API makes it easy to implement new algorithms. The SAGA API supports grid data, vector data, and tables. It has been designed for an easy and effective implementation of spatial algorithms.
It supports far more than 450 freely available functions for geodata analysis, Georeferencing and cartographic projections, Geostatistics: GWR, variograms, ordinary & universal Kriging and lot more.

Geographic Resources Analysis Support System, commonly referred to as GRASS GIS, is a Geographic Information System (GIS) used for data management, image processing, graphics production, spatial modelling, and visualization of many types of data. GRASS supports raster and vector data in two and three dimensions. The vector data model is topological, meaning that areas are defined by boundaries and centroids; boundaries cannot overlap within a single layer.gis geospatial vector 2d 3d image-processing visualization geographic-information-system geo-statistics
QGIS is an Open Source Geographic Information System. QGIS aims to be an easy to use GIS, providing common functions and features. The initial goal was to provide a GIS data viewer. QGIS has reached that point in its evolution and is being used by many for their daily GIS data viewing and editing needs. QGIS supports a number of raster and vector data formats, with new support easily added using the plugin architecture.gis geographic-information-system geo maps spatial
GRASS GIS (https://grass.osgeo.org/) is a Geographic Information System used for geospatial data management and analysis, image processing, graphics/map production, spatial modeling, and visualization. In general: you don't really need write access as you can simply open a pull request to contribute to GRASS GIS. Whitebox GAT is an open-source geographical information system (GIS) and remote sensing package. The Whitebox GAT project began in 2009 and was conceived as a replacement for the Terrain Analysis System (TAS). Whitebox GAT is intended to provide a platform for advanced geospatial data analysis with applications in both environmental research and the geomatics industry more broadly.geomatics gis geographic-information-system geo maps spatial
The GIS Tools for Hadoop are a collection of GIS tools that leverage the Spatial Framework for Hadoop for spatial analysis of big data. The tools make use of the Geoprocessing Tools for Hadoop toolbox, to provide access to the Hadoop system from the ArcGIS Geoprocessing environment. Start out by navigating to samples and following the instructions provided with each sample. There are also tutorials for using the GP tools and aggregation methods.spatial-analysis hadoop

This tutorial is an introduction to visualising and analysing spatial data in R based on the sp class system. For a guide to the more recent sf package check out Chapter 2 of the in-development book Geocomputation with R, the source code of which can be found at github.com/Robinlovelace/geocompr. Although sf supersedes sp in many ways, there is still merit in learning the content in this tutorial, which teaches principles that will be useful regardless of software. Specifically this tutorial focusses on map-making with R's 'base' graphics and various dedicated map-making packages for R including tmap and leaflet. It aims to teach the basics of using R as a fast, user-friendly and extremely powerful command-line Geographic Information System (GIS).
NOTE - All project resources are now hosted at http://qgis.org. Quantum GIS (QGIS) is a Geographic Information System (GIS). QGIS supports common vector and raster formats, including Shapefiles, PostGIS, GRASS, GeoTiff, TIFF, JPG, and many more.

The JUMP DB Query Plugin is an extension for the OpenJUMP GIS platform that allows OpenJUMP users to give arbitrary database queries to retrieve and display geographic feature sets. Spatial databases currently supported are PostGIS, Oracle Spatial, MySQL, and SpatiaLite.
This extension helps GIS developers to migrate ESRI ArcView projects to the most popular Free and Open Source alternatives for Geographic Information Systems (GIS), like Mapserver, JUMP, ArcExplorer, QGIS and Thuban.
