android-AutofillFramework - This sample demonstrates the use of the Autofill Framework

  •        13

This sample demonstrates the use of the Autofill Framework. It includes implementations of client Activities with views that should be autofilled, and a Service that can provide autofill data to client Activities. This sample demonstrates the use of the Autofill framework from the service side and the client side. In practice, only a small handful of apps will develop Autofill services because a device will only have one service as default at a time, and there is just a small number of 3rd-party apps providing these services (typically password managers). However, all apps targeting O with any autofillable fields should follow the necessary steps to 1) ensure their views can be autofilled and 2) optimize their autofill performance. Most of the time, there is little to no extra code involved, but the use of custom views and views with virtual child views requires more work.

mandala - A Go framework for writing native Android applications

  •    Go

Mandala is a framework for writing Android native applications in Go using the Goandroid toolchain. You can develop, test and run your application on your desktop and then deploy it to an Android device. It encourages the use of idiomatic Go for writing Android applications: communication happens through channels and not callbacks. The framework should not be considered a high-level game engine but as a basic layer onto which game engines can be built or existing ones can be used. In my opinion, this opens interesting scenarios in the developing of native Android applications/games in Go. Goandroid's native_activity example was the initial source of inspiration for this project. Please consider that Mandala is in a very early stage of development: API will change, test coverage is not so good for now. Last but not least, Go doesn't officially support native Android development. Regarding this point, I hope that the present work could act as a sort of incentive in the direction of an official Android support by the Go Team.

clockwise - Watch face framework for Android Wear developed by ustwo

  •    Java

Clockwise is a watch face framework for Android Wear developed by ustwo. It extends the Android Wear Watch Face API and provides base classes and helpers for quickly and correctly developing watch faces. This includes properly handling the various modes of operation, hardware constraints, changes in date/time/time zone, access to data, and performance considerations. ustwo worked with Google to develop the first watch faces on the Android Wear platform, and in doing so, we learned a great deal and identified the benefit of extending the existing watch face API into an open source framework. The purpose of Clockwise is to help developers more easily consider the inherent nuances in developing watch faces on the Android Wear platform, including varying hardware specifications and battery life conservation. The goal is that by utilizing the Clockwise development framework in conjunction with the Watch Face design guidelines (co-created with ustwo), developers can enhance the user's experience on Android Wear.

Android-Bootstrap - Bootstrap style widgets for Android, with Glyph Icons

  •    Java

Android Bootstrap is an Android library which provides custom views styled according to the Twitter Bootstrap Specification. This allows you to spend more time on development rather than trying to get a consistent theme across your app, especially if you are already familiar with the Bootstrap Framework. You should then checkout the library and investigate the sample code, which covers most of the features. The sample app is also available on Google Play.

Place your Android SDK somewhere in your home directory or some other application-independent location. Some distributions of IDEs include the SDK when installed, and may place it under the same directory as the IDE. This can be bad when you need to upgrade (or reinstall) the IDE, as you may lose your SDK installation, forcing a long and tedious redownload.
