maintainer - :octocat: :man_technologist: :whale: Generate AUTHORS, CONTRIBUTING, and CHANGELOG for your GitHub repository

  •        5

Maintainer is a CLI app which helps you to generate AUTHORS, CHANGELOG.md, CONTRIBUTING.md and so on based on the repository in GitHub. It makes your repository more contributor-friendly. There is only one configuration now: the token in GitHub. The token can be created from https://github.com/settings/tokens/new?description=Maintainer%20CLI%20token, you only need "repo" scope for private repositories.

maintainers-guide-to-staying-positive - Don't let the trolls get you down! Use this as a reference to avoid open-source burnout and keep doing what you love: writing code! Contributions and any kind of improvements are very welcome!

  •

This guide was written by me, Jon Schlinkert, programmer, public speaker and author of more than 1,100 code projects. I have published code projects in several different languages, but most are JavaScript. 60+ of my projects receive more than 1 million downloads/month, with the total exceeding 380 million downloads/month. This brief guide is a distillation of my experiences as a maintainer. If you find this useful (and I hope you do!), please consider following me on github or twitter to receive updates about this and other projects I maintain.

gitlab-plugin - A Jenkins plugin for interfacing with GitLab

  •    Java

This plugin allows GitLab to trigger builds in Jenkins when code is committed or merge requests are opened/updated. It can also send build status back to GitLab. Most of the current maintainers of the plugin are no longer using GitLab on a daily basis, and therefore have less time to contribute to it. If you are a regular user and would like to help out, please consider volunteering as a maintainer. There are verified bugs that need fixes, open PRs that need review, and feature requests that range from simple to complex. If you are interested in contributing, contact Owen (email address in git log) for additional access.

hall-of-fame - :trophy: Show some love to your contributors! A widget for your repo README

  •    Python

Hall-of-fame helps you show some love to your contributors. It automatically highlights your new, trending, and top contributors, and updates every hour. You can put this widget anywhere inside your README, e.g. to "Contributing" section. No maintenance is required. Every hour, Hall-of-fame looks into recent commits of your repo using GitHub API. It then selects three categories of contributors: new (those who made their first commit to your repo in the last 7 days), trending (those with most commits in the last 7 days), and top (those with most commits of all time). It then selects up to three new contributors, up to 4 trending contributors, and if total is less than 7, it fill up the remaining spots with top contributors.

codetriage - Discover the best way to get started contributing to Open Source projects

  •    Ruby

When patients come into the emergency room, they don't see a doctor immediately, they go to a triage nurse. The nurse knows enough about medical problems to properly assign that person to the doctor that can help them the quickest. Since the doctors are the most limited resource, triage nurses help to assign them as effectively as possible. Triage in open source means looking at open issues and adding useful information for maintainers. While you might not maintain a repository, you can help those who do by diagnosing issues, reviewing pull requests. Triage is an important part of open source. It can be difficult to keep up with bugs and assess the validity of contributions. Code introduced to fix one problem can easily generate more problems than it solves, so it's important for maintainers to look closely at bug reports and code contributions. Unfortunately as the size of a project grows, the demands placed on the maintainers grow. This means they are forced to choose between spending enormous amounts of time reviewing each GitHub issue, only skimming over issues, or worse, ignoring issues.
