libpostal - A C library for parsing/normalizing street addresses around the world

  •    C

Addresses and the locations they represent are essential for any application dealing with maps (place search, transportation, on-demand/delivery services, check-ins, reviews). Yet even the simplest addresses are packed with local conventions, abbreviations and context, making them difficult to index/query effectively with traditional full-text search engines. This library helps convert the free-form addresses that humans use into clean normalized forms suitable for machine comparison and full-text indexing. Though libpostal is not itself a full geocoder, it can be used as a preprocessing step to make any geocoding application smarter, simpler, and more consistent internationally. The core library is written in pure C. Language bindings for Python, Ruby, Go, Java, PHP, and NodeJS are officially supported and it's easy to write bindings in other languages.

Lux - XML Search engine

  •    Java

Lux is an open source XML search engine using Lucene /Solr and Saxon XQuery/XSLT processor. Lux provides XML-aware indexing, an XQuery 1.0 optimizer that rewrites queries to use the indexes, and a function library for interacting with Lucene via XQuery. These capabilities are tightly integrated with Solr, and leverage its application framework in order to deliver a REST service, application server, and supporting tools.

thingscoop - Search and filter videos based on objects that appear in them using convolutional neural networks

  •    Python

Thingscoop is a command-line utility for analyzing videos semantically - that means searching, filtering, and describing videos based on objects, places, and other things that appear in them. When you first run thingscoop on a video file, it uses a convolutional neural network to create an "index" of what's contained in the every second of the input by repeatedly performing image classification on a frame-by-frame basis. Once an index for a video file has been created, you can search (i.e. get the start and end times of the regions in the video matching the query) and filter (i.e. create a supercut of the matching regions) the input using arbitrary queries. Thingscoop uses a very basic query language that lets you to compose queries that test for the presence or absence of labels with the logical operators ! (not), || (or) and && (and). For example, to search a video the presence of the sky and the absence of the ocean: thingscoop search 'sky && !ocean' <file>.

zombodb - Making Postgres and Elasticsearch work together like it's 2018

  •    C

ZomboDB brings powerful text-search and analytics features to Postgres by using Elasticsearch as an index type. Its comprehensive query language and SQL functions enable new and creative ways to query your relational data. From a technical perspective, ZomboDB is a 100% native Postgres extension that implements Postgres' Index Access Method API. As a native Postgres index type, ZomboDB allows you to CREATE INDEX ... USING zombodb on your existing Postgres tables. At that point, ZomboDB takes over and fully manages the remote Elasticsearch index and guarantees transactionally-correct text-search query results.

pynlpl - PyNLPl, pronounced as 'pineapple', is a Python library for Natural Language Processing

  •    Python

PyNLPl, pronounced as 'pineapple', is a Python library for Natural Language Processing. It contains various modules useful for common, and less common, NLP tasks. PyNLPl can be used for basic tasks such as the extraction of n-grams and frequency lists, and to build simple language model. There are also more complex data types and algorithms. Moreover, there are parsers for file formats common in NLP (e.g. FoLiA/Giza/Moses/ARPA/Timbl/CQL). There are also clients to interface with various NLP specific servers. It works on Python 2.7, as well as Python 3.
