Am-I-A-Real-Dev - Find out if you are a Real Dev ™

People get really mad. It's not cool to throw rules like this and influence developers that don't know it is not necessarily true.

docker-osx-dev - A productive development environment with Docker on OS X

  •    Shell

As of March 4, 2018, this project is no longer actively maintained. The Docker for Mac app has made significant improvements in terms of mounted volume performance and file watching, so docker-osx-dev is no longer necessary. I tried many different solutions (see Alternatives) that didn't work until I finally stumbled across one that does: rsync. With rsync, build and compilation performance in mounted folders is on par with native OS X performance and standard file watching mechanisms work properly too. However, setting it up correctly is a painful process that involves many steps, so to make life easier, I've packaged this process up in this docker-osx-dev project.

pesticide - Kill your css layout bugs

  •    CSS

Kill your CSS layout bugs. Without 2000 clicks in Chrome Dev Tools. Sometimes if I am trying to sleuth a layout problem in CSS, all I want is every single element on the page to show me where its outline is. And I want all the outline colors to be different per element because, well sometimes I need to tell stuff apart. The pesticide toggle has proved much faster for me than clicking around in browser dev tools when trying to uncover what CSS is causing me problems.

developer-rig - Developer Rig for Twitch Extensions

  •    TypeScript

Today (January 17, 2019), we’re announcing the steps we’re taking to improve the way we build and deliver the Developer Rig. Our mission is to help developers build the best Extensions possible, and we believe we can better serve our customers by taking development fully in-house and moving the Developer Rig to a closed source model. The immediate outcome of this strategic decision is the native Developer Rig, which is currently in beta. The native Rig combines a number of technical, UI, and usability improvements, delivering a faster start-up and an improved user experience. You can download the native Rig beta build for Mac and for Windows. We are targeting early February to provide a Linux build as well. We would love to get your feedback and you can do so in the following places: the #native-dev-rig-beta channel on the TwitchDev Discord, on the Twitch Developer Forums, or in the following user survey.

awesome-dev-podcasts - a curated list of awesome dev podcasts and why they are awesome

a curated list of awesome dev podcasts and why they are awesome. I don't like normal "awesome" lists because they are usually not well maintained and are typically placed without an explanation of awesome, so here i will actually go out on a limb and say what i think. i'm a webdev and former finance guy so those are my biases.

Majestic is an electron app that provides a UI for running tests with Jest. Jest CLI itself provides one of the best testing experiences available today. angularjs-Quizzler - The AngularJS Challenge: Create an online Quiz builder & testing application.

  •    CSS

The purpose of the challenge is to present a work-from-home challenge to developers interviewing for positions on AngularJS projects. Their challenge is to create an online HTML5 application... And I preface the request with a comment that this is a non-trivial request imposed on the candidate. But such a challenge has HUGE benefits in that it (1) allows a review team myriad opportunities to perform a full-suite assessment of the developer candidate and (2) it also removes much of the time factor from the challenge. Candidates can use their own tools, own resources, and invest significantly more time into the project than would otherwise be available in a single screensharing session such as Google Hangout.

LocalizationKit_iOS - Realtime Dynamic localization translation delivery system for iOS and Mac OSX in Swift

  •    Swift

Localization kit is a powerful to localize texts and translation management tool. I am a developer and invariably I get the questions 'Can you just change this text?' or 'Can you add another language?' I have designed this framework so you can manage these translations and texts without having to recompile, resubmit and without the need to use developers. Essentially take out all of the pain. Localization Kit quickly and easily integrates into your app using Cocoapods. Then it connects to services from LocalizationKit.com which are free to use and manage. Then as you create items in your iOS app the text keys become available instantly in the online web UI. From there you can change the text and it is reflected within app in realtime (as you type any key).

mac-dev-playbook - Mac setup and configuration via Ansible.

  •

This playbook installs and configures most of the software I use on my Mac for web and software development. Some things in macOS are slightly difficult to automate, so I still have some manual installation steps, but at least it's all documented here. This is a work in progress, and is mostly a means for me to document my current Mac's setup. I'll be evolving this set of playbooks over time.
