There are lot of projects which are good but not able to sustain in the long run. In this article we will discuss about how to get sponsors for open source projects. Open source projects requires sponsorship, those who are using the project may be interested in contributing for the betterment of the project. There are few problems here, those who want to contribute want more transparency on how the money being utilized. They may contribute small but they are stakeholders and interested in knowing how the money being spent.
Open Collective is an organization which helps to collect and manages money for the open source project. It provides more transparency on expense accounts. Sponsors will know, how the money is utilized. All you need to do is, register yourself with the organization, get the backer link and add it to you Github page. Patreon is some what similar to Open Collective. It helps to build your fan club and helps you to collect fund for the project. Creator will provide small benefits for a small fee. Say for example, you can provide a small patch, extra feature for a small fee. Those who want will pay the fee to access it. This way, you can provide some commercial support for the project.

Few people hate advertisement and may ask why showing Ads in open source project. My opinion is, Ads without disturbing the content is OK. The money, open source projects get from Ads is little but it will be constant and consistent. It helps to avoid the dependency on sponsors.
