EdX - The Future of Online Education from MIT and Harvard
We aggregate and tag open source projects. We have collections of more than one million projects. Check out the projects section.
is an online learning platform founded by Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Along with offering online courses, the institutions will use edX to research how students learn and how technology can transform learning–both on-campus and worldwide. EdX is based in Cambridge, Massachusetts and is governed by MIT and Harvard.
Students have to choose a course and enroll themselves to it. Few courses may have some prerequisites like having basic knowlege in the respective domain. The course will be avaialble on scheduled duration. If you miss it then you need to wait for the next scheduled time. Courses are available in many topics like Aritifical Intelligence, Energy, Computer Science, History, Mechanics, Electrical etc.
The class will consist of lecture videos, which are broken into small chunks, usually between eight and twelve minutes each. Some of these may contain integrated "check-yourself" questions. There will also be programming assignments and standalone exams/quizzes, which are not part of the video lectures.
Additional to that, EdX has open sourced the courseware component architecture named XBlock. It has also open sourced couple of other related components.
Universities like Harvard and MIT offering such courses for free will help many students, working professionals in any corner of the world. Making education accessable to all is the formost duty of any university. Hope many others will follow.
