Zopfli Compression Algorithm is a new zlib (gzip, deflate) compatible compressor. This compressor takes more time (~100x slower), but compresses around 5% better than zlib and better than any other zlib-compatible compressor we have found.
LZ4 is a very fast lossless compression based on well-known LZ77 (Lempel-Ziv) algorithm, providing compression speed at 300 MB/s per core, scalable with multi-cores CPU. It also features an extremely fast decoder, with speeds up and beyond 1GB/s per core, typically reaching RAM speed limits on multi-core systems.
This distribution bundle includes the following components: libarchive: a library for reading and writing streaming archives, tar: the 'bsdtar' program is a full-featured 'tar' replacement built on libarchive,
cpio: the 'bsdcpio' program is a different interface to
essentially the same functionality. It automatically handles archives compressed with gzip, bzip2, lzip, xz, lzma, or compress.
