Amanda - Network Backup Solution

AMANDA, the Advanced Maryland Automatic Network Disk Archiver, is a backup system that allows the administrator of a LAN to set up a single master backup server to back up multiple hosts to a single large capacity tape or disk drive. Amanda uses native tools (such as GNUtar, dump) for backup and can back up a large number of workstations running multiple versions of Unix/Mac OS X/Linux/Windows.

Debian - The Universal Operating System

Debian is a free operating system (OS) for your computer. An operating system is the set of basic programs and utilities that make your computer run. Debian provides more than a pure OS: it comes with over 29000 packages, precompiled software bundled up in a nice format for easy installation on your machine.

Varnish - Web Application Accelerator.

Varnish Cache is a web application accelerator also known as a caching HTTP reverse proxy. You install it in front of any server that speaks HTTP and configure it to cache the contents. Varnish Cache is really, really fast. It typically speeds up delivery with a factor of 300 - 1000x, depending on your architecture.

Memcached - distributed object caching system

Memcached is high-performance, distributed memory object caching system, generic in nature, but intended for use in speeding up dynamic web applications by alleviating database load. Memcached is an in-memory key-value store for small chunks of arbitrary data (strings, objects) from results of database calls, API calls, or page rendering.

OTRS - Helpdesk platform in Perl

OTRS is the leading open-source service innovation suite and includes Help Desk, an ITIL-compatible IT service management (ITSM) solution, an iPhone App and an underlying technology platform. It provides web interface to administer and manage the tickets. Email notifications will be sent out for new tickets and follow-ups.

Lz4 - Extremely Fast Compression algorithm

LZ4 is a very fast lossless compression based on well-known LZ77 (Lempel-Ziv) algorithm, providing compression speed at 300 MB/s per core, scalable with multi-cores CPU. It also features an extremely fast decoder, with speeds up and beyond 1GB/s per core, typically reaching RAM speed limits on multi-core systems.

Infinispan - Key value NOSQL data store and data grid

Infinispan is an extremely scalable, highly available key/value NoSQL datastore and distributed data grid platform. The purpose of Infinispan is to expose a data structure that is highly concurrent, designed ground-up to make the most of modern multi-processor/multi-core architectures while at the same time providing distributed cache capabilities. Infinispan offers enterprise features such as efficient eviction algorithms to control memory usage as well as JTA compatibility.

Unicorn - Rack HTTP server for fast clients and Unix

Unicorn is an HTTP server for Rack applications designed to only serve fast clients on low-latency, high-bandwidth connections and take advantage of features in Unix/Unix-like kernels. Load balancing is done entirely by the operating system kernel. Requests never pile up behind a busy worker process. Does not care if your application is thread-safe or not, workers all run within their own isolated address space and only serve one client at a time for maximum robustness.

Reddit - Social bookmark engine

Reddit is a web-based social bookmarking system. It allows multiple users to store, share and tag their favorite links online. Users will provide the content (links) and decide through voting what's good and what's junk. Links that receive community approval bubble up towards #1, so the front page is constantly in motion and filled with fresh and interesting links. Sub groups (community) could be created and each groups could be moderated by its owners.
